Clinic Director: TACHI Naoko
I was the director of the Eye Center at Shinsei-kai Toyama Hospital in Imizu City until March 2021, and in April I opened a new clinic in front of Toyama Station.
I opened the clinic in front of Toyama Station in April, because some patients told me that it was difficult for them to go to Shinseikai because they could no longer drive.
We have added an operating room to our original contact lens clinic and are now providing general ophthalmology services. Contact lenses are a boon for people with severe myopia. However, people with high myopia face many risks,
such as retinal diseases, glaucoma, and problems related to contact lenses. At Shinseikai Toyama Hospital, I treated patients who were already in an advanced state of disease. Based on this experience, we provide medical care to help patients maintain good vision for the rest of their lives.
The most important thing we focus on is to eliminate blindness in patients with diabetic retinopathy.
Patients with diabetic retinopathy who have been untreated for a long period of time or who have had a long break in treatment often experience difficulty seeing immediately after starting diabetes treatment, after undergoing laser treatment, or after cataract surgery. Diabetic macular edema may be hiding behind this vision loss. Diabetic macular edema is a condition in which the walls of blood vessels are damaged due to diabetes over a long period of time, causing water to accumulate in the macula, the part of the retina responsible for vision, and impairing vision.
We were the first in the world to provide surgical treatment for diabetic macular edema 30 years ago. In recent years, drug therapy has been used first, but due to the need for repeated injections and the fact that injections may not be effective in some cases, surgical treatment has been reconsidered.
We will focus on the treatment of other retinal diseases and cataracts. Equipped with the latest 3D microscopes, we will continue to share our experience with the next generation of staff to provide good eye care.
Whether you are happy that you can see now or have an eye disease that cannot be cured, I am a human being with a body that will eventually perish. My motivation to become a doctor originated from the question, “Why live when you will surely die? I started this clinic in order to share this question with as many people as possible.
